The Island of Rhodes once had a huge statue but no one is sure where it was
located

| Information: |
Sun God Helios. Took 12 years to build and was completed in 282 BC. A
strong earthquake destroyed the statue in 226 BC. The statue remained in ruins for over
1000 years until it the pieces were sold for scrap in 654 AD by the Arabs. It is reported
to have taken 900 camels to carry away the scrap. The height of 110 m and location of the
harbor do not seem very likely. |
