In Memory of Tomas

Bernal Tours is owned and operated by Tomas Bernal a native of Peru who has lived in the heart of Canaima National Park since 1983. Allow us the opportunity to take you on a virtual tour of a vast array of incredible waterfalls, unique landscapes, and scenery only a few will ever experience. It is impossible to capture the true beauty of this remarkable and majestic countryside, so we hope that the pictures and descriptions we have provided will encourage you to embark on this adventure with the most experienced guide the area has to offer.

Tomas came to Canaima National Park in 1983 as an airline mechanic. In 1984, Tomas began a new career as an ecological excursion specialist in Canaima National Park. Tomas started his new profession by establishing a campamento between Sapo and Sapito Falls. Sapito Falls became famous for its unique ability to allow visitors to Canaima National Park to walk behind the water fall. Tomas worked on this pathway behind Sapito Falls for two years and the walk is now a integral part of every tour out of Canaima. In 1993, Tomas moved to his new campamento at the entrance to Canaima National Park. The campamento is located directly across from Hacha Falls and can accommodate one to thirty people in hammocks. On overnight trips to Angel Falls you will stay in Bernal Tours campamento within view of Angels Falls and only an one hour hike. We have provided information on two standard packages and the itinerary. We can provide custom packages to help make your trip to Canaima National Park a memorable one.

Canaima airport is accessible from Caracas and Ciudad Bolivar by commercial airlines and charter. Bernal Tours provide two guided packages depending on the time of year. During the rainy season a complete 3 day-2 night tour is available between June and December. The dry season begins in January and ends in May. Because the river is very low in the dry season, travel to Angel Falls is not available by boat but can be viewed by plane. Each trip by boat to Angel Falls requires a minimum group of six people. We get many small groups of people who together make up the minimum required for the overnight boat trip to Angel Falls. Please inquire at the time of the reservation, the best day to arrive if your group is less than six people
